The Young Smart Cities project was presented at Didacta 2026 in Cologne, one of Europe’s leading education fairs, during a podium discussion on innovative educational approaches and TechLabs as accessible learning environments for modern urban development.
The discussion brought together Prof. Dr. Martin Wortmann (Bildungsallianz des Mittelstands), Dr. Luciana Stortoni (University of Siegen), Patrick Schwane (teacher at St.-Franziskus-Gymnasium in Olpe and chairman of Infotastic e.V.), and Nicole Grüdl-Jacobs (Head of the Municipal Education Centre and City Library of Remscheid).
During the session, Dr. Stortoni presented the Project-Based Learning (PBL) approach used in Young Smart Cities, highlighting the collaboration between schools and local authorities, which provide students with concrete urban challenges to explore within classroom activities.
The discussion with teachers attending the fair also offered an opportunity to disseminate the project and exchange perspectives on innovative approaches to learning and urban development.
